During my stint as bass-player in Wheatstraw, a Boston-based country-rock band of the 1970's, I assumed the duties of "technical director" - including obtaining and maintaining all the various gear needed by a working band. After leaving the band, I started working as a sound engineer and electronic technician, trained and mentored by Walter Lenk of Cambridge, MA. Along with on-the-job experience, I took courses at Steve Langstaff's Audio Workshop (audio and recording studio) and Lowell Institute of Technology at MIT (electronics and computer programming.)
Young, skinny, on the road, in my best red-neck guise. |

Ewan McColl & Peggy Seeger at Paine Hall, Harvard. Peggy had been fiddling with her mic stand and I had to tighten it in mid-set. (Ewan's comment was, "And she wanted to be an engineer!") |
